Samsung on Monday resumed its defense against Apple in multibillion-dollar patent infringement case, after the US company rested its case last week. San Jose Mercury News says Samsung’s top marketing executives and Google engineers testified on the South-Korean company’s behalf. Samsung it seems is showcasing all the recent Super Bowl ads and the Oscar selfie taken by Ellen DeGeneres as part of its defence and to showcase that it has a large market share than Apple. The report adds, that however, Todd Pendleton, Samsung’s marketing chief, _"_conceded that Samsung does increase its marketing to coincide with the release of new Apple products such as the iPhone 5, admitting it tries to “disrupt” Apple." Samsung is also using Google engineers to showcase that the patents that Apple is talking about were developed by the search giant and not Apple. Earlier Samsung attorney Peter Quinn had told the jury, “Not one of the accused features on this phone was designed, much less copied, by anyone at Samsung. The accused features on this phone were developed independently by some of the software engineers at Google, up the road in Mountain View.” Samsung has also put up two Google engineers in the trial. Paul Westbrook, a Google engineer involved in Gmail developments, and Dianne Hackborn, a key Android developer are part of Samsung’s defence. The latest Apple vs Samsung case is over five patents . These patents are slide to unlock, links within SMSes, Universal Search, autocorrect and background data sync. Both Apple and Samsung have sued each other over patent infringement. Apple wants Samsung fined over $2 billion for violating these patents, in the most recent instance.
