Samsung announces Galaxy A8 Plus in India: Here's how it compares with OnePlus 5T, Nokia 8, Honor View 10 and Mi Mix 2

Samsung has launched the Galaxy A8 Plus in India for Rs 32,990 and as an Amazon exclusive. This is the only phone apart from the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 to feature Samsung’s signature Infinity display and similar to last year’s Galaxy A7, the Galaxy A8 Plus comes with a sandwiched glass and metal design.

The phone has 6-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display on which sits a layer of 2.5D glass while the back is adorned with a 3D curved glass pane. Under the hood, the phone has Samsung’s own Exynos 7885 SoC along with a Mali G71 GPU which is paired alongside 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The storage can be expanded via a microSD card to 256 GB.

This would be the only variant launching in India. The Galaxy A8 Plus comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1 with Samsung’s Experience operating system.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus comes with a dual-front camera system and has a 16 MP + 8 MP configuration with an aperture of f/1.9. The 16 MP camera on the back has an aperture f/1.7 and PDAF.

The A8 Plus features face recognition software for unlocking the device like the OnePlus 5T and the Honor View 10. In terms of connectivity, the phone offers dual-SIM slots with 4G VoLTE capability, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, 3.5 mm jack and a USB Type-C port. The entire setup is powered by 3500mAh non-removable Li-ion battery and includes Samsung’s Adaptive fast charging.

With this device, Samsung has brought in some competition in the sub-Rs 35,000 category alongside the likes of OnePlus 5T, Honor View 10 and more. So we decided to put a comparison of all the major devices under Rs 35,000 and see how the A8 Plus fared against them.

The devices under consideration are the OnePlus 5T (64 GB), Honor View 10 , Nokia 8 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 . All of the devices have top-level processors, great camera hardware, and amazing displays. With the exception of the Nokia 8, all the devices sport a thin-bezel display.

However, we should inform beforehand that these smartphones are being currently compared only based on their specification on paper. Real-world tests should follow soon.
