Along with two new Galaxy S6 flagship devices, Samsung has also announced its second VR headset. The all new headset called the Gear VR Innovator Edition has been announced for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
The first VR Headset priced at $199 came with limited compatibility. Only Galaxy Note 4 smartphone was compatible with it. According to Samsung, the new headset is 15 percent smaller than the original and offers improved graphical performance because of the phones' newer, more powerful chips. One can also expect improved fidelity, thanks to the S6's sharp display. Besides, one will also see visual changes like redesigned straps for better weight balance and mechanical ventilation for comfortable usage over a prolonged period.
Interestingly, it now also gets a USB port that will allow charging the S6 while it's inside the headset. This means, you can watch a lengthy movie on the device while charging it simultaneously. However, this also points out to the inefficiency of the S6's battery.
"That's a welcome change for anyone sitting around at home watching movies on their Gear VR, it does highlight that you won't get as much playtime from the headset as the original. That's because the S6 has a far smaller (2,600mAh versus 3,220mAh) battery, making charging a necessity for longer sessions, and somewhat negating one of the Gear VR's main benefits over the competition -- the fact that it's untethered," points out Engadget.
Though the company has announced the new VR headset, there are no major content announcements for the wearable. It is also available for $199.
