Sales of Assassin's Creed III cross 7 million mark

Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed 3 is the fastest-selling game in the company’s history, with total sell-through topping the 7 million mark worldwide just one month after its release.

According to the company, in solo missions alone, players have accumulated more than 82 centuries of gaming time and committed more than 3 billion assassinations. The deadly action continues in the multiplayer, where more than twice as many players have joined the multiplayer mode compared to Assassin’s Creed Revelations. To date, more than 250 million assassinations have been performed in more than 5 billion multiplayer sessions.

Earlier this month, the company had released a trailer for its upcoming DLC— the Tyranny of King Washington. It is set to take place in an alternate storyline where George Washington succumbed to greed and became evil.

The trailer mostly deals with the themes of how America would have turned out if George Washington was a tyrant ruler. It talks about how the country would end up if its constitution were based on the blood of innocents. As it turns out, it will be up to Connor, the main protagonist of Assassin’s Creed III, to stop Washington.

The developers had talked about the DLC back in September. The story is described as a “what the f***” story. “We know that not everyone will buy it,” Assassin’s Creed 3 director Alex Hutchinson said at Eurogamer Expo. “So it’s a ‘what the f***’ chunk of story that, if you missed it, the next game will still make sense.”

The Assassin’s Creed series deals with a secret war between the Assassins and the Templars that has lasted for millennia. The Assassins seek to fight for the free will of people, while the Templars seek to control them. The first game was set during the Holy Crusades in Jerusalem. Protagonist Altaïr ibn-La’Ahad would have to jump from rooftops and sneak into groups of people in order to find and assassinate his targets.

The second game was set during the Renaissance era in Florence. The main protagonist of the ‘II’ series of games – Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – is Ezio Auditore. The II series of games dealt with the evolution of Ezio as a character, who starts out as a revenge-driven teenager and ends up as a highly-skilled master of Assassins. Altaïr is also featured in Revelations and the aged assassin’s last few days are shown. The secondary protagonist of the series is Desmond Miles, who is accessing his ‘genetic memory’ to live the lives of his ancestors Altaïr and Ezio.

The latest game in the series puts you in control of Connor Kenway as you travel through the frontier and watch the American Revolution unfold.

The Tyranny of King Washington DLC will be part of the Assassin’s Creed III Season Pass. You can read our review of Assassin’s Creed III here.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
