RPG Bastion now available for the iPhone

One of the most critically acclaimed games of 2011 was the indie title Bastion. According to Eurogamer, the role-playing game is now available to play on the iPhone. Previously, the iPad was the only iOS device where the game could be played. The iPhone version of Bastion is only compatible with the fifth generation iPod Touch, the iPhone 4S, and the iPhone 5, and is available on the App Store for $4.99.

Bastion has been critically praised for its story, storytelling method, and music. The game employs a narrator that tells the story as it happens, including things that the player does, like breaking boxes and falling off ledges. The hack-and-slash RPG was originally launched on Xbox Live Arcade as a Summer of Arcade title in 2011. Other than iOS and the Xbox 360, you can play the game on PC, Mac and via the Chrome browser.

Other high-profile core gaming titles making their way to iOS includes the recently-released Borderlands Legends by Gearbox. The game is a turn-based strategy one, much in the vein of the recently released XCOM: Enemy Unknown. You take control of the four characters from the first Borderlands, namely Lilith the Siren, Mordecai the Hunter, Brick the Berserker, and Roland the Soldier, and command them to take cover or attack enemies from a top-down perspective, as is common with strategy games. Characters have three action skills and six abilities. The new thing that the game is bringing to the genre is the ability to control all four characters simultaneously, giving you the ability to synergise their attacks for added mayhem.

The game has you kill enemies for cash, buy weapons, earn experience, level up and unlock new abilities. It also features unique skill trees for all characters. A unique addition to the handheld game is a “strategic cover system”, along with “randomised” missions. The cover system seems to work like the one in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, where the characters will automatically take cover, if available, where you’ve moved them.

On the same day as Borderlands Legends, EA had released the mobile version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. According to the official description of the game: “Evade a relentless police force while you clash with street racers. Race and chase hot cars like the SRT Viper GTS, Porsche 911 Carrera S, Hummer H1 Alpha, and many more. Feel the intensity of no-brakes-allowed street racing with realistic full-car damage for the first time on mobile.”

When the iOS and Android versions were announced, EA had released a trailer for the game. The trailer shows that the game features good graphics, along with the same gameplay that will be there in the other versions of Most Wanted, including the Takedown mechanic, which was originally featured in the Burnout series. According to the company, “Need For Speed Most Wanted features stunning dynamic physics-based collisions, exciting cop takedowns, and realistic visual damage.” The physics-based collisions would probably help a great deal with the gameplay thanks to the ability to execute Takedowns.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
