RoBoHoN, Sharp's robot smartphone will be on sale soon

Sharp’s pocket-sized robot phone tat first made its presence felt at MWC this year is all set to go on sale soon, but in Japan. Sharp has announced the RoBoHoN will be launching next month on May 26 at a price of 198,000 yen excluding tax, means it will cost just over $1800.

For those not in the know, RoBoHoN is a basic phone fitted in a robot. It can dance, walk and even project your photos with an in-built projector. It supports LTE, and Sharp has said it is already working on NTT Docomo Japan’s biggest phone carrier. It also plans to couple with smaller MVNO carriers. While a phone in the form of robot may sound innovatve, in the tech world we live in, we wonder how many would be pleased with the 2-inch QVGA display. It has three voice recognition technologies, and you will also have to pay for some. “There’s three different voice recognition technologies working inside the bot, including offline voice recognition. Cloud voice recognition comes courtesy of Nuance, although even if the initial price doesn’t sting enough, there’s another gut punch: users will have to pay a monthly fee (starting from six bucks) for voice recognition functions,” reveals Engadget . RoBoHoN is developed by robotics expert Tomotaka Takahashi.
