Ringing Bells claims 25 lakh bookings, but phones yet to start being made

Ringing Bells has claimed that it has received over 5 crore registrations and out of those around 25 lakh bookings will be honored in the company’s first sale in June.

As anyone who has been following the Freedom 251 saga since the last week, already a lot of questions have been raised regarding how the company managed to make a phone at Rs 251, is it really a made in India phone or a re-branded Chinese phone and so on.

According to a report in The Times of India,  Mohit Goel,  the owner of Ringing Bells says that he hasn’t yet transferred the booking amount to his accounts. He will do so only after the phones start selling.

He has also stated that he will disclose Ringing Bells’ business plans in a couple of days. “We have reached the target of 25 lakh bookings and we will start distributing by April-end. We will set up two factories, one in Noida, another in Uttarakhand.” he told TOI.

According to Goel, his company already has an assembly unit in Noida. There has been a lot of displeasure regarding the booking system of the Freedom 251 handset online as the site has been crashing and not completing the payment process.

A notice outside the Ringing Bells office stated that the only way to book the phone was via online means. There were a lot of people who had assembled outside the office on Friday to complain against the booking methods.

Including the shipping charge of Rs 40, the total cost of acquiring the Freedom 251 is Rs 291. This gives a total of Rs 72.5 crore booking amount.

To ensure there is no fraud involved,  GautamBudh Nagar DSP Anoop Singh has stated that the police has run a background.

“If need be, we will also keep his documents and passport in custody until clarity is given to everyone about the how he is going to manufacture and deliver the phones, and provides a time frame,” said DSP Singh to the paper.
