Rumours of a low-cost iPhone have received yet another boost as a new photo allegedly showing off the retail packaging of the “iPhone 5C” has been leaked. This image joins the leak of other parts and plastic shells rumoured to be components of a cheaper iPhone that is being planned by Apple.

The images surfaced on the Chinese WeiPhone discussion forum over the weekend. They showed a box full of plastic retail boxes of the alleged “iPhone 5C”. Rumours have it that the “C” in it could stand for “colour” since the underlying common factor between all of these seem to be that the new, low-cost iPhone will come in various colours.

The iPhone 5C is expected to join Apple’s refreshed version of iPhone 5, called the iPhone 5S. The packaging box of the iPhone 5C may not seem like anything an iPhone comes packaged in, but surely resembles the packaging of the iPod touch.

An image leak of alleged volume rocker and lock switched pieces of the cheaper phone, earlier this month, has pointed at a plastic casing for the cheaper version of the iPhone and shows that the phone could be available in a variety of colour options like yellow, blue, red and green. An older image leak had showed that the phone could have a bright green back panel with the Apple logo and “iPhone” etched onto it.

PhoneArena has reported that the Apple may be planning to introduce the iPhone 5C alongside the iPhone 5S at an event on September 18, with the actual launch taking place on September 27.
