Reservoir Dogs not welcome in Australia

If you think the ESRB sucks huge marbles, just be glad you don’t stay in Australia. It seems nearly every (hyper) violent game is banned over there - be it Manhunt, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Postal, Postal 2, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, Narc, The Punisher or The Getaway. This however doesn’t stop people from playing them, thanks to Uncle Torrent. And now it seems gamers down under will have to rely on their (most-generous) uncle for yet another game; Reservoir Dogs. This action game based on Quentin Tarantino’s cult flick of the same name has been banned by Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification because of the following reason:

  • Players (participants in a bank heist) can literally blow the heads off hostages and police as well as execute hostages at point blank range with a gunshot to the head.
  • Using a series of so-called signature torture moves, players can use different means to torture hostages and thereby cause police to lay down their weapons, such as repeated pistol whipping the side of the head with blood spray evident, burning the eyes of a hostage with a cigar until they scream and die, cutting the fingers off a hostage with blood bursts as the victim screams in pain.
  • In lieu of taking a hostage the player can opt for a more violent scenario where a slow motion shootout occurs, accentuating the violence.
  • Mr. Blonde drinks Fosters and tortures baby kangaroos.

Ok so I made up the last one, but a guy can always wish can’t he? reservoir dogs.jpg

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
