Report suggests that an iPhone exploded inside its box. Is this a repeat of the Note 7 fiasco

A new iPhone exploded in the box according to a post on Reddit. The iPhone seems to be completely charred with the screen coming off from the device. According to the post posted by user ‘kroopthesnoop’ posted on 27 September, the user pointed that his coworker received the new iPhone in charred condition from the company. Several users have posted on Reddit post discussing the cause of the burnt iPhone. The user who posted the Reddit post points that the box, however, did not catch fire. [caption id=“attachment_338208” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Image Credit: kroopthesnoop, imgur](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/iPhone-7-burnt.jpg) Image Credit: kroopthesnoop, imgur[/caption] The original post has one image giving us a glimpse at the burnt iPhone. Several users seem to discredit the post and have pointed out the reditter should post more pictures detailing the damage. One of the users has pointed out certain details in the picture posted ranging from the presence of phone manual inside the box and the package in the image making it certain that the burnt iPhone is not the latest iPhone 7. The model of the burnt iPhone could not be confirmed, but it does seem that the packaging of the device in the photo is different from the packaging of iPhone 7. This observation is contrary to what several publications like Gizmo Times and Phone Radar have posted about the charred device being the new iPhone 7. Other users are speculating if the fire was the result of failed battery caused by cargo cabin depressurisation. There are no updates on the original post regarding the progress of reporting the case to Apple. There is no information about the steps taken by the owner of the device and the company to contact the owner after this was posted online. There is no official statement from Apple at the time of writing. But, regardless, this case makes it a cause of concerning for Apple and other companies manufacturing smartphones. This comes right after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco where Samsung issues a global recall for the latest flagship.
