Reliance Jio to launch 4G smartphones priced under Rs 4,000 this December, says Mukesh Ambani

Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of Reliance Industries, is all set to launch the highly anticipated **4G services**  later this year. At the 41st Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani said the company plans to launch the 4G service this December, according to a report by The Times of India. Along with the 4G services, the company reportedly also plans to launch 4G smartphones priced under Rs 4,000. If this happenes, it would further help in the deeper Internet-enabled mobile penetration in the country. Ambani revealed that Jio is in the ‘final testing phase’ and is looking for commercial launch of its services in December. Jio also plans to team up with various vendors to bring 4G devices at uber-affordable price of sub-Rs 4,000 to India. A **previous report** revealed that Reliance Industries is in talks with Chinese manufacturers such as Gionee, Huawei and Xiaomi to secure cut-price phones that could be sold in packages from US$30, as it seeks to repeat the low-cost revolution it unleashed with its first dip into India’s mobile market more than a decade ago. An earlier report revealed that Jio is in talks with groups including Gionee, Huawei and Xiaomi, as Chinese firms seek a platform to build their presence in a lucrative and growing market. Reliance Jio is said to offer 4G services using LTE technology in 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands. It has pan-India spectrum for 4G wireless broadband services, and plans to provide connectivity speed to subscribers that will be 10-12 times faster as compared to 3G networks. Reliance Jio plans Rs 70,000 crore investment in its telecom business that is one of the biggest digital initial initiatives in the world, claims Ambani. he also promises a range of digital services to be launched through the Reliance Jio platform. Jio plan to launch several digital apps over the next few weeks. Among its apps, Jio chat already has a million users. Disclaimer: Reliance Jio is owned by Reliance Industries Limited, who also own Network18, the publisher of Firstpost (tech2)
