Redmi smartphone could be the first to come with Qualcomm's newly launched Snapdragon 636 chip

**Qualcomm** recently **unveiled its new mid-range SoC** , the Snapdragon 636. The 636, which is designed to slot in between the Snapdragon 630 and 660 chips is yet to be announced on any smartphone. However, latest reports suggest that it could soon be seen on a Redmi smartphone. [caption id=“attachment_4150587” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]Representational image. Qualcomm Representational image. Qualcomm[/caption] As per a report by GizmoChina, the Snapdragon 636, which is based on Samsung’s 14nm process, is expected to start shipping by November. The report also pointed to a tipster on Weibo who posted that the new chip could appear on a Redmi smartphone soon. The Snapdragon 636 comes with Kryo 260 CPUs that deliver up to a 40 percent performance boost in comparison to the earlier Snapdragon 630. A key feature of the new processor is also its support for displays with a FHD plus resolution. This, as the GizmoChina report suggests, could be what the new Redmi phone may feature. Image: GizmoChina[/caption] Redmi which is sub-brand of Xiaomi has not mentioned anything officially yet, but could be gearing up for a new device with a FHD plus resolution display. This news also appears a day after Redmi **launched its entry-level** Redmi 5A in China. Xiaomi has priced the Redmi 5A at a price of 600 CNY which converts to approximately Rs 6,000.
