Update: Xiaomi announced today that its Xiaomi Redmi 2 smartphone has received a price cut of Rs 1000 and will now be available at Rs 5,999. The device is available in White and Grey variants. Starting today, Redmi 2 will be available on Mi.com and across all Mi India partners including Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, The Mobile Store and Airtel.
Xiaomi India has taken to its social media platforms and posted an image along with a post that says, "Paint the town red. Get ready to change your phone." The partial image shows the new price of a device at Rs 5999. Xiaomi will make the announcement tomorrow at 10am on http://mi.com/in.
With this teaser, Xiaomi could either offer us a Rs 1000 price cut on the Redmi 2 which is currently available at Rs 6999. Also, the company may launch the Redmi 2A in India. In either cases, the price for the device will stand at Rs 5,999.

In terms of specifications, the Redmi 2 sports a 4.7 inch HD IPS display at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The phone is powered by a 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It comes with USB OTG and runs on Xiaomi’s own MIUI 6 skin over Android 4.4 KitKat. The device has an internal storage at 8GB and can be further expanded via microSD card. It has an 8MP rear camera along with a 2MP front-facing camera.
