Raspberry Pi 2 (Model B), the second version of the micro-computer chip, is now on sale for $35 (same price as the current Model B+). The Raspberry Pi 2 features a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU, 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM has complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1 and according to the Raspberry foundation this can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10. The previous version of the Raspberry Pi (Model B+) had a 700MHz processor and a single-core processor, along with 512MB RAM. Now Raspberry has managed to bump the processor speed, number of cores and the RAM. The Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is roughly six times more powerful than the prior version, according to the blogpost. Of course like with other versions of the Pi, users will need their own keyboard, a MicroSD card with a code of the operating system, cables to connect to television/computer monitors. The blogpost also says that all of the connectors are in the same place and have the same functionality, and the board can still be run from a 5V micro-USB power adapter. Raspberry Foundation has also been working with Microsoft to bring Windows 10 to the Pi 2 and while more details will be shared by Microsoft later on, the Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers. Users will have to log on to WindowsOnDevices.com to join the Windows Developer Program for IoT and receive updates as they become available. The company is also not discontinuing the Model A and Model B+ versions of the Raspberry Pi. As far as buying the Raspberry Pi 2 is concerned, you can buy it from MCM Electronics if you want it shipped from the US or Farnell Element 14 who are the UK distributors. Earlier models are also available on Amazon India, though remember these are not authorised sellers.
