Qualcomm announced its next generation entry-level system-on-chip - Snapdragon 210 - featuring a quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor with Adreno 304 GPU with support for 720p displays and LTE Cat.4 connectivity. With the Snapdragon 210 SoC, Qualcomm is looking to target the sub-$100 smartphones on Asian markets. Some of the other features of the Snapdragon 210 include full HD video playback using HEVC encoding, improved graphics performance with Adreno 304 graphics and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 which enables faster battery charging. The SoC also supports cameras upto 8MP resolution with support for features such as zero shutter lag, high dynamic range, autofocus, auto white balance and auto exposure. Snapdragon 210 is based on the 28nm process and the quad-core processor is clocked at 1.1GHz. Snapdragon 210 will offer integrated multi-mode 3G/4G LTE and LTE dual SIM for entry level smartphones. The devices sporting the 210 will launch only in the first half of 2015. With the Snapdragon 210, Qualcomm is surely looking at grabbing some of MediaTek’s market share and it will be interesting to see how MediaTek responds.
