Pitted against an array of recently launched sub Rs 10,000 smartphones in the Indian smartphone market, Intex today launched the Aqua i5 Mini, another in the company’s Aqua series. The Aqua i5 Mini enters the market at a time when there is an unprecedented enthusiasm amongst the users for low–cost smartphones. It’s been priced at Rs 6,850. Like many other phones in this range, the Aqua i5 Mini sports Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek quad-core processor. There’s 1GB of RAM, which sounds pretty good at this price range, and internal memory is 4GB with provision for a microSD card. It sports a 4.5 inch display with FWVGA resolution, which doesn’t fill us with a lot of confidence. On the back is a 8MP camera with flash, while on front is a 2MP camera for video calls or selfies. The camera sports all the basic Android features such as geo-tagging, touch focus etc. Intex’s customised UI brings a theme-based layout, where users can access apps by clicking on the relevant icon in the theme. It’s a solution we have seen in some Indian-branded phones, but it’s just one of the many ways you can customise your phone’s UI. The Intex Aqua i5 Mini is a dual-sim smartphone which has support for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as well as a ambient light sensor, a magnetic sensor which works with the bundled flip cover, a proximity sensor and a gyroscope. Intex has not revealed any numbers for battery life, but it should be pleasant considering the low-powered hardware and a 1500 mAh unit.
