PS3 gets price drop

At the ongoing European video games expo, Gamescom 2011 Sony announced a worldwide price cut for the PlayStation 3 effective immediately. Starting today, the PlayStation 3 will now retail for $249.99, 249.99 Euros or 24,980 Yen. Now before you start celebrating, you need to understand that more often than not, India adopts the EU price point for hardware so you’re looking at around Rs. 16,224 as opposed to Rs. 11,269 if we went with US prices. According to Sony’s website , the 160 GB version of the PS3 is available for around Rs. 20,000 so you’re still looking at a 3,700 rupee cut. Not too shabby I say.

On the subject of a price drop, Sony even announced a new “value-priced” version of their PlayStation Portable, for 99 Euros that roughly comes to Rs. 6,453. This so called value version will not ship with Wi-Fi support and will be sold exclusively in Europe. Unfortunately the Indian PlayStation team’s travelling for this very same event so we’ll only be able to get some sort of clarity on Indian prices when they get back next week.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now.
