Prototype of the Samsung Galaxy S III reveals its internals

With the launch date of the upcoming flagship from Samsung looming just around the corner, it seems one does not need to wait long to know what will feature in this handset. In the past there have been a ton of rumours and supposed leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S III but never quite as much as this. GSMArena has obtained information via a Vietnamese website, Tinhte.vn, who had a hands on with a prototype version of the upcoming flagship propelling one to understand what the device will feature.

Upcoming quad-core handset

As per the report, the design of the handset is not the final version but merely a test device with the hardware that will feature in the handset. This device has been built so that carriers can test it. The reason behind releasing a prototype is that the final design of the smartphone is not revealed. However, the website notes that the internal hardware should be the same that will be included in the final version of the handset.

The website reports that the Samsung Galaxy S III will feature a 4.6-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1184 and a DPI of 320ppi. Speaking on the screen, the author notes, “Part of the screen is reserved for ICS-style on-screen controls. The screen should be a Super AMOLED unit, though we don’t know whether it’s a Plus or not (meaning whether it uses a PenTile matrix or a conventional RGB one).” A lot of talk regarding this handset is centered on the processor and as expected, it is said that the device will feature a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and a Mali-400MP GPU.

Moving on to the storage capabilities of this handset, the Samsung Galaxy S III is believed to feature 16GB of internal memory along with a slot for a MicroSD card. The handset comes with 1GB of RAM and a 2250mAh battery. As far as the camera goes, it said to be an 8 Megapixel camera and not 12 Megapixel as previously believed. In a related report by GSMArena, the website has attained some sample shots from the camera that had been uploaded on to Picasa and the EXIF data reveals that it features an aperture of F/2.6 and a focal length of 3.7mm. However, they state that the EXIF data mentions the camera software as MO_TEST which implies that it may not be the final one yet. The handset will also have NFC capabilities and this bit of information is not new as it had been rumoured from some time that it would feature this capability.
