At CES 2016, one of the most exciting announcements was about Google and lenovo teaming up for Project Tango , aimed at brining advanced 3D mapping and augmented reality on mobile devices, without the need for GPS and other external signals. Now, just ahead of the announcement of the first Tango phone this prolific tipser @evleaks spills the beans. https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/739258418951643136 Yes, according to the tipster, who is known for accurate news about unannounced devices, the Phab 2 is likely to be the first Tango device. He also revealed that the device will include a 6.4-inch phablet with a Quad HD screen. https://twitter.com/tech2eets/status/685288996855889920 Project Tango devices are to be loaded with cameras, as last year’s prototype tablets featured a 4MP rear camera, 180-degree fish eye lens, a front-facing camera with 120-degree filed of vision and a depth camera shooting at 180 x 320 pixels. All those are needed for the ambitious 3D mapping and measurement capabilities that Google is envisioning for future devices built on the platform. Project Tango lets you map the 3D space around you by using a combination of cameras such as a regular camera, an integrated depth sensing camera and a motion tracking camera. The 3D space mapping is done in real time and can help out with navigating within shopping malls and other internal locations. It also lets you interact with your real surroundings thereby adding a layer of augmented reality to the mix. You can read our complete lowdown on **Project Tango**. The announcement is expected at Lenovo’s Tech World event on 9 June.
