Production issues could delay 5.5-inch Apple iPhone 6 till next year: Report

One of the most consistent rumours about the iPhone 6 has been its large display. Moreover, there has been enough evidence claiming that Apple will launch two iPhone 6 models - one with a 4.7-inch display and a slightly larger 5.5-inch variant. Now,  news has it  that the larger and highly-anticipated 5.5-inch model is facing production issues and may not be released until next year. This piece of news comes from none other than KGI Securities analyst  Ming-Chi Kuo , who has the track record of providing accurate news related to Apple products.   According to Kuo, the 4.7-inch model is already facing production issues due to the new technology for the device’s in-cell touch panel, unevenness of the color on the redesigned iPhone 6 metal casing. These problems have got worse with the larger 5.5-inch model. He said, the ‘problems will likely be even more complicated with a larger size’ and ’there could be touch sensitivity issues with the new in-cell touch panels on the edges of the panel as displays become larger in size’, the report adds.   In addition to this, he also said that ‘a new scratch-resistant 5.5-inch sapphire front panel will easily pass the drop test near term’ and the technical issues could cause delays. He believes that it is only logical to push the 5.5-inch model for next year, and rather work on a more affordable iPhone 5s / 5c variant to boost sales.   However, he hasn’t completely sidelined the possibility of the iPhone 6 coming this year, and still hopes the larger variant enters the market this year. Besides, Kuo had recently claimed that the iWatch is also facing production issues and may not go on sale until December this year.   Read  what we know about the iPhone 6 , so far.
