The latest high-profile person to belatedly join the world of Twitter is the President of India. The President will be tweeting through the handle @RashtrapatiBhvn, which went live today. The profile features a cover picture of the Rashtrapati Bhawan and profile picture of the President Pranab Mukherjee. Already a verified profile , the account has not seen so many new followers with just under 5,000 followers since the first tweet a little after 2:30pm on Tuesday. The bio says the account is run by the President’s Secretariat and that any tweets coming straight from Mukherjee would be signed – President Mukherjee. The President’s debut on Twitter follows the brouhaha over the @PMOIndia account, after the new government was formed in late May. Former PM Manmohan Singh was the first to join and current PM Narendra Modi, is among the top 4 politicians to be followed on Twitter worldwide with as many as 5.06 million followers. Modi’s follower count has been boosted immensely since his win and he surpassed United States White House account last week, according to a Twiplomacy report . He is also one of the most popular politicians on Facebook, second only to US President Barack Obama.
