Portal 2 going Cross-Platform

Valve’s upcoming first person platformer, Portal 2 will feature cross platform play which means players across PC, PS3 and Mac platforms will be able to play with or against each other. Microsoft tried this a while back with Shadowrun and the results were rather disastrous with developer FASA Interactive soon shutting down shop thereafter.

Which platform should we play with first?

In addition to allowing players to link up across three platforms, people who buy the PS3 version of the game will somehow be able to unlock the PC version of Portal 2 for free. I find all this highly ironic as it was not too long ago when Valve weren’t pleased with the PS3 and were pretty vocal about it. All that however changed at E3 2010 when Valve and Sony patched up and played nice.

“Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers,” said Valve’s head honcho, Gabe Newell. “We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”

Portal 2 will release across the Xbox360, PS3, PC and Mac by the 22nd of April 2011.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
