Poor iPhone sales may have prompted Apple to cut iPhone XR, XS prices in China

In a surprising move, Apple has purportedly reduced the price of certain iPhone models in China. The Chinese iPhone vendors received word from the Cupertino tech company regarding the price cuts to **iPhone XR** , iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, **iPhone 8** and 8 Plus, according to reports. Other iPhone models are said to have received price cuts of around $59. While Apple reducing the cost of its products seems like a rare move, reports of low sales and reduced demand may have something to do with Apple’s revised plans. Rather than cut the price outright, the company appears to be trying different strategies, including generous buy-back offers and discount promotions. In addition, Apple is promoting such offers on its own site with banners that read “iPhone XR from $449 and iPhone XS from $699.” The phones are officially priced at $699 and $999 and a user will have to trade in their old smartphone to avail the offer. As per the publication, the company’s sales are suffering from ‘a general redirection of Chinese demand away from US products.’ Recently an Apple Insider report quoting Tim Cook’s interview with CNBC cited that the since its launch the iPhone XR has been the most popular iPhone ’every single day’ from when the company ‘started shipping until now.’ But while the iPhones models are likely witnessing huge discounts in China there is no indication on whether these Apple devices will receive any price cut in other emerging markets including India.
