PMO Mobile app launched by PM Modi as a part of MyGov initiative

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched an app on Saturday creating a portal for citizens to have discussions and directly submit grievances to the Prime minister’s office (PMO) right from their smartphones. The app was launched as a part of the MyGov’s anniversary and the first ever Town Hall event in New Delhi. The MyGov portal came into existence when the prime minister launched it on 26 July 2014 as a part of the government’s Digital India campaign. An online contest was organized by the government on the platform last year for the development of the newly launched app. The winners of the contest were a team of six engineering students who got the opportunity to create the app. Just like the online portal, the app contains groups and discussion topics like Girl Child Education, Caring for the specially abled, Clean Ganga, Food Security and more. The MyGov portal today has about 3.52 million registered members, 1,82,000 submissions in 491 tasks and 3.40 million comments in 590 discussion themes. The app basically replicates the MyGov website into a mobile format and offers a neat interface but we did face a little difficulty in logging in after registering. We also noticed that the app shows ads at the bottom, something which we didn’t expect from a government app. It also crashed whenever we tried exploring the ‘Skins’option, also hitting the back button prompts to exit the app instead of going back to the main page. Other than that, the app seems very informative and has a variety of important topics of discussion, polls, suggestions, etc.

 

 

The app is currently available on Android but we expect that it will launch on iOS soon.
