Various reports indicate that the PlayStation VR sold out within 20 minutes on Amazon.com, propelling it to the “No.1 Best Seller” spot on the site, beating The Division’s record-breaking sales. The device went on sale at GDC and the first round of pre-orders are now done.

PlayStation VR, the underdog in the virtual reality gaming space has managed to undercut both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive when it comes to price ( $399 vs $599 and $799 ). Couple that with one of the largest gaming platforms (the PS4 has sold almost 40 million units to date) and you have a best-seller.

Sony has also announced in a blog post that a PlayStation VR Bundle pre-orders will be priced at $499 (around Rs 33,200) and you can pre-order from 22 March onwards. The PlayStation VR bundle includes the following:

PS VR headset PS VR cables Stereo Headphones PlayStation VR Demo Disc PlayStation Camera 2 PlayStation Move motion controllers PlayStation VR Worlds (disc)

The headset features a 5.7 inch 1080p screen that operates at 120Hz. This is less than the 2160x1200 resolution found on the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, but Sony claims to be using “true” RGB pixels. This will, apparently, reduce the “ screen-door ” effect that most low-end VR suffers from.

The devices will ship in October.
