Traditionally, new Gran Turismo games have always been meant for the latest PlayStation available, which at the time of Gran Turismo 6’s release, will be the PlayStation 4. The game, sadly enough, will only be available on the PlayStation 3. Polyphony boss Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that the company does have a PS4 version of Gran Turismo 6 in development, but by the time it’s ready, it will have evolved into Gran Turismo 7.
The comment was made at Gamescom, according to Joystiq. The company was quick to warn, however, that a next-gen Gran Turismo is still quite some time away. Looking at Polyphony’s track record when it comes to development time, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to see the PS4 version of the game before the end of 2014.
Vroom vroom!
Gran Turismo 6 will feature both pre-existing cars as well as new concept cars designed and conceived by major car makers. This includes the likes of Audi, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Other companies that typically don’t make cars are also getting in on the action, such as Nike.
The Gran Turismo series has been massively successful for Sony, and some would even go as far as calling it a console-seller, since many people got their hands on the PlayStation 3 just to play Gran Turismo 5. The series has always had great attention to detail with its large line-up of licensed cars and race tracks. It has also been a hardcore simulation game, punishing players for even the tiniest mistakes.
The company has recently announced that it is working on a movie based on the Gran Turismo franchise, with developer Polyphony’s Kazunori Yamauchi consulting on the film’s development. According to an earlier report, the movie adaptation of the game will be helmed by Producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti of Fifty Shades of Grey fame.
Gran Turismo is making its way to the PS3 on December 6.
