PlayStation 4 and Xbox One break Amazon's pre-order records

Ever since Sony and Microsoft announced the release dates for their upcoming next-gen consoles, Amazon has kicked off pre-orders. According to IGN, Amazon has announced that the next-gen consoles have broken its pre-order records. Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One have clocked 2,500 purchases per minute.

The difference between this year’s E3 week and last year’s, where there wasn’t any console announcement, is that the pre-orders have gone up by 4,000 percent this year. The day-one pre-orders for the consoles were also almost two times as much as last year’s Black Friday sale at Amazon.

The next-gen is breaking records

Price and launch dates for the consoles were unveiled during the respective companies’ pre-E3 press conferences. The Xbox One is set to hit stores in October and will cost $499 (Rs 30,000 approx), while the PlayStation 4 will be out a month later and will cost $399 (Rs 24,000 approx). However, the only information we have about the Indian release dates of the consoles is for the Xbox One, which is set to come to the country in late 2014.

The PlayStation 4, however, is up for pre-order from Indian game retailer Game4u. To pre-order, those interested will have to pay Rs 3,000. Once the console is launched in the country, those who have booked the console can pick it up and pay the remainder of the cost. The company does point out on its PlayStation 4 page, however, that Sony hasn’t yet announced a release date or price for the console in India.

We tried to reach out to Sony for a comment on this, but were unable to get in touch with the company.
