The US Defense buys a whole lot of PlayStation 3s so they can play their favorite Call of Duty multiplayer mission. Well, not really. As per sources, The PlayStation supercomputer cluster has been made as a deal between the DoD and Sony along with one of Sony’s distributors.
As per Mark Barnell, Computing Director, the supercomputer nicknamed the Condor Cluster can munch on high-resolution images for breakfast at a speed of a billion pixels in a minute, something that earlier took them several hours at a stretch. The sophisticated algorithms would also help scientists detect E.T’s regular trips to Earth (at the speed at which he moves, it’s not easy capturing him in action now, is it?)
Imagine playing games on ALL of them.
It’s quite obvious that the US Defense had faster computers to work with, or if the situation called for it, they could even make some for themselves. So what’s the story behind using PS3s? The defense likes the “interactive” style of it! Users can do what they want, when they want to. On a playful note, does it mean that the boys just can’t get rid of their fascination for video games?
