Pinterest is trying out a new look that aims to make surfing the website both faster and more pleasing to the eye. The company will implement a tweaked navigation panel, bigger pin sizes and more.

Pinterest will be testing this update with a small group of users. You can sign up to be let inside the controlled group. The company says that the update will be shared broadly after they work out any kinks that could crop up with the new design.

The spanking new Pinterest!

Without revealing too much, the company stated on its blog: “We made the navigation more intuitive, so it’s faster to get to where you want to go.” A look at the screenshots shows that the navigation panel has received a big facelift.

Currently, the top bar on Pinterest looks slightly cluttered and most of the links are strewn around. The new layout shows two drop-down buttons on either side of the screen that contain all the links you will need. On the right you will find the profile and what looks like the ‘add pin’ button. The left column now contains all the quick links that earlier used to be in middle of the top bar. Categories like home, art, architecture and even men’s fashion are placed here. Options to switch between your feed and all pins are also now within this drop-down list.

This cleaner, neater way of navigating is sure to find fans for the already addictive social networking website.

The size of the pinned images has also been increased. Currently, there is a lot of white space on either sides of an image when you open a pin, and more information, like repins and likes, can be found only after a lot of scrolling. The new design tries to make ample use of the entire screen by placing thumbnails from the board to the right of the enlarged image. The image itself looks like it is large enough to be viewed better.

According to TechCrunch, a ‘related images’ board is also supposed to be in the works. On opening a pin in the updated version of Pinterest, it will show you a host of related pins that help you discover interesting images throughout the website. For instance, if you’re starving and are drooling over an image of pasta in white sauce, the related images might show you more images of pasta, besides images of more food items. This is surely to help keep users on the site for way longer.

Earlier in November, Pinterest started allowing users to add secret boards, which are boards that users can choose to keep private. Users can even choose to share the boards with only a handful of people.

With this new update Pinterest is aiming to keep users captivated for longer on its website, which is known for its iconic masonry design. To be a part of the test group that gets the update first, you can fill out this form to send your information to Pinterest.
