Pinterest may not be as popular as Twitter or Facebook, but it still has its place on the Internet, thanks to its very different utility. While Twitter and Facebook are primarily for sharing stories, Pinterest has always tried to be a shelter for ideas. In fact, earlier this year, a Pew Research Center study found that it’s **one of the social media platforms preferred by adults over Twitter** with a major female user base, which makes it an attractive platform for advertisers as well, but there were a few teething problems. Getting to the right Pin or board required a bit of trial and error, which became more problematic as the number of boards increased. The company hopes to change that with the latest update to the iOS and Android app, which brings Guided Search. Guided Search claims to make finding pins easier by tapping into more than 750 million boards with over 30 billion Pins.
Guided Search gives users suggestions when they enter a keyword to refine the results. Say you search for hair styles for your next spa appointment, but want specific styles for the season and your hair type, Guided Search helps you narrow down the list and get to a Pin quicker. Check out this short clip to see how it works.
The feature is currently being rolled out to English users and there’s no word on when it will be available in other languages.
