Gizmodo Australia has managed to ‘ stumble upon’ a training document that outlines the specifications of Google’s Nexus 7 tablet as well as possible pricing details. It appears that the  previous rumours about the tablet were true, the Nexus 7 will indeed be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, running at 1.3GHz that packs in a quad-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. The SoC will also be accompanied by 1GB of RAM and two different storage options – 8GB and 16GB. This will also be the first stock Android tablet to feature NFC support, so you can use features like Android Beam and Google Wallet. The screen will feature an IPS panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and will also have a 1.2 MP front-facing camera. There’s no mention of a rear camera, which means Google has skipped it, in order to save on the cost. They also haven’t talked about the battery capacity, but say that it should last you about 9 hrs. Coming to pricing, the 8GB model will cost around $199, while the 16GB model will cost you $249. By the time the tablet actually hits our shores, the price could go up a bit, hopefully not by too much. Google I/O is not too far away, so we should know more soon.

The documents also mention that the Nexus 7 will run Jelly Bean and even though it doesn’t state the version number, a screenshot of a leaked benchmark by Android Police confirms that it will be Android 4.1 and not 5.0. The author of the report states that the build number is listed as JRN51B, with J indicating Jelly Bean. The leaked image also displays the SDK version as 4.1 and hence the OS will be termed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Besides the operating system that it is running on, the leaked benchmarks also show the device name as Google ASUS Nexus 7, with 7 standing for the 7-inch form factor it features. Other rumoured specifications that have been confirmed now, include a display resolution of 768 x 1280 and the fact that it runs on a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex A9 processor. Rumours about Google releasing their own tablet started around the time Asus showed off the Eee Pad MeMO, back at CES. Furthermore, Nvidia was pushing hard for a sub-$300 tablet when they talked about project ‘Kai’.  This was touted as a platform, rather than another piece of hardware and how Tegra 3 and a mix of low-cost components would be crucial in making this happen. Google I/O starts on 27th June, 2012 till the 29th, so stay tuned for more on this as and when it happens. In the meantime, here’s a look at what we expect from Google I/O.
