Photos suggest Samsung Nexus Prime is actually the Galaxy Nexus

For the past few weeks there have been image and specifications leaks of the much awaited handset from Samsung. All this while and all reports pertaining to the upcoming handset have revealed the smartphone as the Nexus Prime. However according to a report by Android Next, photos captured from this handset reveal that the ‘BIG’ thing that’s coming is not called the Nexus Prime instead it is the Galaxy Nexus.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

According to the report, in Google’s photo sharing service Picasa, the website apparently typed in random names which are possible names for Google’s and Samsung’s flagship handset. Picasa shows EXIF data of the image captured and included in this data are the camera or camera phone name, exposure, aperture priority, etc. So from this information the real name of the smartphone was revealed as the Galaxy Nexus.

The website claims this information to be true as the photographers are apparently employees of Google. These photographs were captured on the 8th of October 2011 and have a 3MP resolution. The pictures have a lower resolution as the rumoured 8 megapixel camera which we heard earlier. This is probably due the image being downsized by Picasa via the automatic uploading ability of the Google+ app used on the smartphone. Another theory mentioned by the website is that the Galaxy Nexus’ camera may have been set to a lower resolution. The pictures were later removed from Picasa further giving significance to this information as true.

Samsung was set to release the Galaxy Nexus on the 11th of October 2011 but was cancelled due to the passing away of their rival Apple’s co-founder and former CEO, Steve Jobs. In a related Galaxy Nexus report by GSMArena, Eldar Murtazin, a tech blogger states that the handset’s release date was pushed back due to changes as well as removal of certain features from Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich OS that was to be shipped with the handset. According to Murtazin, the removal of these features is due to the on-going battle between Apple and Samsung.
