Pebble announces new Pebble 2 and Pebble 2SE, open for preorder now

Pebble announced the successors to the original smartwatch by the company, “Pebble”. The new smartwatches launched are called “Pebble 2” and “Pebble 2SE.” Pebble 2 is a thinner, lighter and sturdy in build quality and it lasts longer than the original Pebble. The smartwatch has a heart rate sensor included which will help it gain a wider audience, bring the fitness conscious people in the fold.

It is available for $129.99 which translates to approximately Rs 8,700 at the time of writing. One thing to note is that the company has rebranded its products from the announcement of Pebble 2 and Time 2 earlier this year in May . Pebble 2 seamlessly integrates with the companion app, Pebble Health, making it easier for users to track their health insights. The device automatically syncs up with Pebble Health after every workout activity. Pebble Health allows you to sync the data with Google Fit or Apple HealthKit. According to the details on the post on Pebble blog , the device can last up to seven days.

In addition to the tracking movements and sleep, the smartwatch keeps you in the loop with all the notifications from your smartphone. It alerts you with incoming calls, text messages, events or snaps and users can send custom responses or record voice responses right from the smartwatch. Pebble 2 is water resistant up to 30 meters which makes it safer to take along for a swim.

Pebble is equipped with Glance UI which makes it easier for users to quickly check what is next using “Quick Views” from the watch face and “App Glances” for specific apps. You can increase your productivity by adding Quick Launch shortcuts. The Pebble 2 supports over 15,000 watch faces and apps at the time of writing. These apps range from health, entertainment, productivity, remote control and fitness. The design allows users to swap the straps for Pebble 2 manually.

Pebble 2 SE is also dubbed as Pebble 2 Standard Edition which is identical to Pebble 2 except the smartwatch does not include a heart rate sensor. This helps the company in bringing the price of the device to $99 which translates to approximately Rs 6,600 at the time of writing. Pebble 2 starts shipping this month while Pebble SE will be available in November.
