The latest edition of the long-running FIFA franchise is set to launch in September. But it looks like FIFA 14, which will be running on the new Ignite engine, won’t make its way to PC. This has come after Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice President, EA Sports, said in an interview to Polygon that the game would not have the same engine when released on PC.

However, this is not the first time that EA Sports will launch the famous football video game running on two different engines. Until 2010, the franchise used to have two versions built on different engines for the consoles and PC. “Even though there are some PCs on the marketplace that could run the Ignite engine, the lion’s share of PCs on the marketplace cannot, and the majority of the gamer base that plays the game on PC do not have a PC spec that would work with the engine." stated Wilson as the reason behind this move.

The new Ignite engine, which will support the game on the next-gen consoles, will help in improving the stadium atmosphere and will ensure that the spectators in the stand no longer look like cardboard cutouts. The developer has ensured that the new engine will help bring in 3D crowds and the stadium atmosphere would change based on the progress of the match.

The new engine is also expected to affect player’s performance. The engine will help in improving the awareness, anticipation and the reactions of each player. The performance of a player would also change depending on the importance of a particular match. This would mean that Messi could showcase a flawless play in a home match against Real Sociedad, but could be caught in “no man’s land” during a match against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Even though the Ignite engine won’t feature in the PC version of FIFA 14, Wilson did not rule out the possibility of it making to PCs in future. “Could I see the potential for EA Sports Ignite to make it to PC in the future? Yes, I think it’s possible, but a couple of things need to happen," said Wilson.
