PC version of Borderlands 2 will not have local split-screen co-op

Borderlands 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games to be releasd this year. The game mixes intense first person shooter action with role-playing game mechanics. Some of its features are skill trees and a variety of stats on weapons.

The developer of the game, Gearbox, has recently announced via Twitter that the PC version of the game will not get the ability to play split-screen co-op. “No, split-screen is not currently supported on PC due to technical reasons,” said the company on its Twitter page. PC is hardly the best platform for split-screen gaming, but it’s always a nice touch to be able to play with a friend in the same room and on the same system.

Here are some of the details that have been revealed the game:

  • Co-op will probably be 4-players
  • Vehicles will have variety
  • One vehicle: Bandit Technical
  • One vehicle will have four seats
  • Eridium – enhance weapons
  • Eridium is a form of currency
  • Salvador: Gunzerker, can dual-wield with any weapon
  • Vault Hunters from the first game will be NPCs
  • Bandits can access their own type of weaponry
  • Unique styling, colour, personality for each manufacturer
  • Custom decals/enhancements for weapons
  • More responsive enemies, more varied, better AI, improvement so that they interact with each other better
  • NPCs will also be improved, will move around more
  • Interacting dialogue for players
  • Skill tree will be similar to the first game (3 branch system)
  • Claptrap seems to be returning
  • Apparently, there won’t be any old weapons
  • Story missions won’t be static
  • Some pickups will provide temporary buffs

The first game in the series, Borderlands, was the world’s first role playing shooter, which meant it was in equal parts a role playing game, and a first person shooter. The game also boasted of literally a bazillion guns, all with stats and looks so randomized, that you could find a shotgun that shoots rockets. For the sequel, the general direction and style still stays the same, which means the game is still an RPS that offers four player co-op.

The first game in the series had a bunch of problems on the PC version, mostly because it was a very shoddy port of the console versions. Gearbox had written a letter to PC gamers explaining that it will be adding some major features to the PC version of the game. Some of the features are:

  • FOV slider
  • 100 percent mouse usable menus/mouse wheel scrolling
  • Remappable keybindings for keyboard/mouse
  • PC-specific UI
  • Native multiplayer matchmaking
  • Push to talk
  • Logitech keyboard support
  • LAN support (including offline mode)
  • Control pad support
  • Integrated V-sync option
  • Support for higher resolutions
  • Mouse smoothing options (can be disabled completely)
  • Cloud save support
  • Achievement support
  • Friends list support
  • No port forwarding required

Borderlands 2 releases for the Xbox360, PS3 and PC on September 18, 2012.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
