PayPal couldn’t have timed this announcement better. The company has just announced that the PayPal app for iOS 10 on Apple devices now support Siri integration. Transferring money to someone is now as easy as saying, “Hey Siri, send Bill $50 using PayPal,” says PayPal’s Meron Colbeci. When commanded to do so, Siri will throw up a PayPal notification with the details that you specified and you can then approve or deny the transaction.
The service will be available to citizens in 30 countries, a list that includes USA, many European countries, China, Thailand, Mexico, and more importantly, India. We’re curious to see how PayPal will deal with security, however. Can anyone just grab your phone and ask Siri to send your contacts money? We assume (hope) that there will be stringent security measures in place, but PayPal hasn’t outlined those measures just yet. With PM Modi banning Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and limiting cash transactions until year end, we will be forced to rely on digital payment services like PayPal, FreeCharge and others. We wonder when Apple/Android Pay will actually make its way to India though.
