Partial image of Galaxy S III shows up in legitimate looking announcement

Yet another, all new image of the Samsung Galaxy S III, one of the most awaited flagship phones from Samsung has popped up on the Internet. This time it’s made a partial appearance on what looks like a legitimate announcement. Although Samsung has not substantiated this announcement, it looks real enough for us to wait anxiously for and count the days till what could be the date of launch i.e. 22nd May.

Much like the Galaxy Nexus’ release, only a partial image of the handset can be seen on the image. If it’s to be believed that the portion in question is the true likeness of the SGS III, then all the pseudo-official images that made the same claim before are no more than shams. From the little visual evidence that’s showcased on the “announcement”, we’re looking at one seriously slick piece of hardware with an aerodynamic shape encased in a metallic shell. This photo looks a lot better than the renders and “leaks”. It also looks like Samsung’s claim to have an edge-to-edge display with minimal bezel could be a reality here.

Another observation we made was that the device is missing a physical home button as we expected. The slight ‘chin’ below the display would, most likely, be home for the three Android ICS keys. Backlit keys on a surface like that could look quite classy. We also noticed a slightly lighter shaded portion on the side. Could this be merely for grip if its’ rubberized or could it house buttons on the upper region?

In case you’re coming in a bit late, here are a few of the expected features that have been making the rounds for the last couple of months -

  • Quad-core processor and on chip LTE
  • 4.8-inch AMOLED Plus Display with 16:9 Aspect ratio and an HD resolution (possibly 720p but could be higher)
  • 3G, Wi-Fi with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct (Possibly)
  • 12 megapixel camera
  • Wireless charging
  • MHL for AV out

Samsung has chosen to remain mum about the whole thing and neither the specs nor the variety of “leaked” images and this announcement have been confirmed by them. It was earlier rumoured that Samsung was to make a big announcement on the 30th of March, 2012 and naturally the mobile community expected to see the first glimpse of the SGS III. Of course that date has come and gone and there’s still no sign of the S III. The unveiling, according to this announcement is set for over a month away, leading us to be quite skeptical about its legitimacy. But these days, you never know. All we’re sure of is that we’re quite upset that we’ll have to wait that long for the handset and if we have to, it had better be worth it.
