ZDNet has reported that the latest company to recall batteries is Matashuita or as it is universally known Panasonic. The company is recalling 6,000 notebook batteries due to the chances these batteries might overheat. This is of course nowhere near the recall figures of Apple and Dell who had to recall 1.8 million and 4.1 million batteries respectively.
Although these batteries are being recalled the fact is none of these batteries have been manufactured by Sony. Panasonic has said that the battery overheating takes place when it has either been accidentally dropped or has suffered a strong impact somewhere causing a tiny metal spring in the battery pack to fall off causing overheating.
This latest battery recall affects only Japanese made notebooks made between April 2005 and May 2005 and there have been no reported cases of notebooks catching fire.
