Oyo to start sharing customer data with state govts, local authorities: Reports

Access to data will be provided only after Oyo is presented with an information order for an investigation.

Oyo is reportedly working on a new digital record system, with which it will facilitate the state governments and the local law authorities with live check-in updates of its customers, provided they are presented with an information order for an investigation.

According to a report by Business Standard, Oyo Hotels and Oyo Homes will be sharing the information of guests staying at its hotels with the local state government and police.

The report quotes Aditya Ghosh, chief executive officer of India and South Asia at Oyo saying that the company "would be happy to make the platform open” for all state governments.

"The Digital Arrival and Departure register aims to maintain a real-time record of guest entries and update the respective governments on who's checking in and checking out, when presented with an information order for an investigation, making it a more secure, efficient and transparent process as compared to the manual version," said Ghosh.

According to existing government regulations all hotels and guest houses are supposed to make a note of all the guests checking in to their properties. When law enforcement authorities want to investigate a case and have the right permissions from the court, they can request these hotels and guest houses to produce their records and go through it for a legal investigation.

Reportedly, as of now, Oyo is already in talks with the Haryana, Rajasthan and Telangana government regarding the proposed digitisation.

These records will be maintained using an app, wherein all the details of arrival and departure of guests will be fed in. A version of the same app will also be available with the government. Oyo is currently piloting this process in Jaipur.
