Microsoft has announced an update for its Outlook application on iOS and Android, which brings in map integration, event icons and ‘Interesting Calendars’. The announcement comes right after Microsoft’s acquisition of mobile calendaring application Sunrise . The Interesting Calendars feature will allow Outlook mobile users to connect their favorite apps, such as Wunderlist, Facebook and Evernote. It will also allow users to subscribe to their hometown sports team’s calendar and see the events automatically pop up in their calendar. TV shows and more will also be added in the future. The new calendar feature was previously launched on Outlook web earlier this month for Office 365 and new Outlook.com accounts. While the new calendar features are out via an update on iOS, Android users will be getting the update soon. According to Microsoft, it currently requires users to have an Office 365 email address, though people with Outlook.com emails and Gmail users will be able to use the new feature later this year. Other updated features include Bing Maps integration to help users plan their meeting and appointment locations. This is similar to the Google Calendar feature where you can add a location while creating an event. The app will also include event icons. When you type in words like “coffee” or “lunch” while creating an event, those keywords will trigger a particular icon that matches the event to appear. Other improvements include the ability to edit recurring meetings from your mobile device and the ability to create Skype for Business meetings.
