Opera Max, the data compression VPN app by Opera has crossed 10 million mark in terms of monthly active users. The app has highest number of users from India followed by Indonesia and Brazil.
The VPN app helps people conserve data bandwidth by compressing the amount of data used in each task like web browsing, watching YouTube videos. The app was launched in Mobile World Congress in 2014 as a beta version and after testing in selected markets and working with the feedback.
The public release version of Opera Max was launched in 2015 and rolled to many mobile-first markets and the app has experienced an increase of 3,300 percent in the number of monthly active users within one year. The growth is termed staggering with the number of users starting from 300,000 in April 2015 to 10,000,000 in April 2016.
The language and device support for Opera Max has grown steadily with the app covering 98 percent of Android users, both on Android smartphones and tablets.
This announcements comes just days after Opera launched the beta program for Opera Max 2.0 with more streamlined User Interface under a new listing on the playstore. The company also informed about it’s intent on delivering Opera Max technology to billions of people and to work on a way to keep the Opera Max cloud service sustainable. Opera has suggested either the use of non-intrusive ads in future Opera Max version with one ad per day or one dollar per month without advertisements.
