OnLive is releasing an app, “OnLive Desktop”, which will allow you to use Windows apps, including Microsoft Office on your iPad. The app provides access to Windows 7 applications hosted on PC servers in the cloud. Using the iPad’s capabilities, OnLive will bring the Windows experience to the iPad with multi touch gestures as well as other features like a full on-screen Windows keyboard and handwriting recognition. Video, animation, slide transitions and PC games will be made available via remote desktop delivery.

The free OnLive Desktop app comes with 2GB of cloud storage and as-available access to a cloud- based Windows 7 desktop pre-loaded with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as other utilities and touch games. Using gestures, users can open and edit the files they need and save them to the cloud for access on any other device. The apps will have all the same capabilities that the desktop apps do.

The OnLive desktop will be coming to the iOS App Store tomorrow (Thursday). It is currently only available for the iPad, but Android, smartphones, PC, Mac and monitor/TV (via OnLive MicroConsole thin client with Bluetooth keyboard/mouse) support is coming soon. There will also be a Pro version coming soon, which will allow access to 50GB of storage, priority access, full-featured cloud accelerated browsing, additional PC apps and other features for $9.99 (approx Rs.51) a month.

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo.
