OnePlus, as promised has released the source code for Dash charging on GitHub. During the launch of the latest flagship by the company, OnePlus 3, the company assured that this device will be the most developer friendly device by the company. The company stood by its statement and soon after the launch, put up all the Oxygen OS code on GitHub. As soon as the developers went through the code, they realised that the code on GitHub was incomplete and OnePlus had left come code out of the complete codebase. Dash Charging is one of the key features of OnePlus 3 highlighted during the launch. We were mighty impressed by the Dash charging technology **during our review** . The technology used helps the OnePlus 3 go from 0 to 60 percent of battery charge in 30 minutes. After going through the code and making the first custom ROM, the developers realised that code for Dash charging was not present. This left all the custom ROMs and custom kernels without supporting the technology. We reached out to the OnePlus developer, Leo Jia who previously outlined the plan by saying “We will release Dash as two parts: one part is kernel source code, such as GPIO; and the other is OnePlus proprietary. For the business consideration, OnePlus proprietary will be released as binary.” He uploaded the Dash charge code two days back and yesterday made it official by posting on the issue.“Guys, Dash is uploaded, please re-sync all repositories I mentioned below, and build. android_vendor_qcom_thulium android_vendor_oneplus_oneplus3 android_kernel_oneplus_msm8996 android_device_qcom_sepolicy” This opens up a world of new opportunities for people who did not want to compromise on the complete experience provided by the Stock OxygenOS ROM to something lean but without all the features. This comes right after a number of updates issues by OnePlus to fix the bugs in OxygenOS. One thing however remains is that OnePlus has not updated the kernel source since last three updates. Here is hoping that they will update it sooner than later. As of writing the article, custom ROMs had already started to bake Dash charge in their ROMs and kernels with latest updates.
OnePlus, as promised has released the kernel sources for DASH charging as promised by the company last month. During the launch of the latest flagship by the company, OnePlus 3, the company assured that this device will be the most developer friendly device by the company.
