OnePlus refutes allegations of selling refurbished smartphones

OnePlus has refuted allegations that the company is selling refurbished smartphones. In a  blog post, OnePlus has investigated each of the seven complaints of  OnePlus One handset users who had claimed to have received used or refurbished phones.

Some users reported that they had received phones with dust and scratches, while some claimed that the box was not factory-sealed when shipped to them. Another customer revealed that the phone faced some technical difficulties even the phone was brand new. OnePlus explained each of these situations and has suggested that some devices may have been tampered with when in transit, though that’s not a sure shot indication that they’ve been resold and refurbished.

Brandon H, who is one of the administrators of the OnePlus forum said, “We have of course never sold a used or refurbished phone labelled as new (or otherwise). But, there was still some sort of an issue here - one we took very seriously. So, we immediately contacted the 7 users in question and launched our own investigation.”

In almost all the cases, OnePlus has provided the manufacturing and shipping dates of the smartphones to prove that it had only shipped new phones to its customers. In one of the cases whee a customer claimed his phone did not run properly, Brandon H explains, “The customer had made a forum post about some technical issues, but never meant to suggest that his phone was refurbished.”

While OnePlus took full responsibility for any possible dust and/or scratch issues, it reiterated that all the devices it sold were brand new. It added, “Out of over 500,000 devices, a handful perhaps slipped by quality control and were sent out with minor imperfections, but they were in no way used or refurbished.”

Strangely, there’s no mention whether OnePlus would replace damaged phones. The post only assures that OnePlus would take measures to ensure that every single phone will be shipped in absolute-perfect condition in the future.
