OnePlus staff member Allen took to OnePlus forums to announce the release of OxygenOS 3.1.0 for OnePlus X. The latest release bumps up the Android version to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. This release is termed as a community build which means that it is not the final build and may have some issues.

The update includes several changes and new additions for the device. The update includes the 1 August security patches for Android, OnePlus Music Player, OnePlus Gallery, native Android permissions, long press to rearrange the shelf and some launcher tweaks. The current version has three known issues that range from mobile network stability, third party compatibility with some apps and pending improvement in language localizations.

This release is a limited release, preferably as a beta test, and comes with the usual disclaimers of data loss, etc. Allen advises users to create a backup of all their important data before installing the ROM. Earlier this month, OnePlus rolled out an official update, OxygenOS 2.2.2 for OnePlus X. OnePlus X users have been very vocal about the horrible pace of updates for their devices unlike the updates provided to OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and the latest flagship OnePlus 3.  Hopefully, the pace will pick up soon.
