OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 2 will have a fingerprint sensor. According to a post on the OnePlus Forum, “Guys, you guessed it right: the 2 will come with one of the latest and most advanced fingerprint sensors out there.”
The post adds, “In the past, fingerprint sensors were great in concept, but the technology was just not quite there yet. They could be inaccurate and often times took longer than it would take to just enter a password manually. In a nutshell, fingerprint scanners were tacked on to a phone just to hop on the “me too” bandwagon. A selling point, not a useful feature. We could’ve done this with the One, but we felt it was better to wait.”
In fact, OnePlus claims the fingerprint sensor in the OnePlus 2 will be better than Apple’s implementation of TouchID. The post adds, “With the OnePlus 2, the fingerprint sensor is done right. It’s refined and lightning quick, unlocking your device faster than TouchID. The average person checks their phone over 200 times per day. If you spend just three seconds inputting a PIN number or pattern, that’s over an hour of your time gone each week.”
It’s interesting to note that the post also emphasises on security. It adds, “Your smartphone is your most personal device, and its security should be personal, too.”
In the past Samsung had also implemented fingerprint sensors in its devices. However, researchers at Germany’s Security Research Labs had demonstrated that the Samsung Galaxy S5’s fingerprint scanner is not really all that secure. Recently, there were reports that Google would add fingerprint ID to Android M.
