OnePlus 2: More details about battery, dimensions, build; to stay invite-only

Yesterday, the OnePlus team participated in a AMA session on Reddit and added a few details about the second flagship device – the OnePlus 2.

Yesterday, the OnePlus team participated in a AMA session on Reddit. Their post on Reddit said, "As always, we are beyond excited to be here talking directly with you guys. And of course, this is a particular exciting time here at OnePlus. We are firing on all cylinders at our HQ preparing to launch our second flagship device. It’s really difficult to contain ourselves! We wish we could tell you everything about the OnePlus 2 right now, but we have to save some excitement for our launch on July 27th."

9to5google mentioned key specification of the device from the discussion on Reddit, "According to various OnePlus team members (who did indeed verify themselves), the phone will have a slightly larger 3,300 mAh battery (up from 3,100 mAh of the OnePlus One), while the physical size of the phone will actually be moderately smaller than that of its predecessor."

According to TheNextWeb, "The device will also get multiple StyleSwap back covers to customize its look. In addition, there will be different versions for Europe/Asia, North America and China versions with “much better band support than last time.” OnePlus noted support for the following wireless bands:

US GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8 FDD-LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/7/8/12/17
Europe GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/5/8 FDD-LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20"

Given the number of teasers by OnePlus, there is a considerable amount of interest in the OnePlus 2. Until now, OnePlus has hinted at the following:


OnePlus had officially announced that its upcoming smartphone, OnePlus 2 will sport 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The company claims that the LPDDR4 RAM will bring benefits such as lower power consumption along with twice the bandwidth performance.

Priced below $450

The company’s CEO Pete Lau confirmed on Twitter that the new smartphone won’t cost more than $450. This works out to approximately Rs 28,500.

Full metal build

On Weibo, OnePlus CEO reportedly asked, “How to define “full metal”?”  Now, there is no mention of One Plus 2, but considering he has been talking about the upcoming successor, we cannot rule out the possibility.

Fingerprint sensor, faster than Apple ID

OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 2 will have a fingerprint sensor. According to a post on the OnePlus Forum, “Guys, you guessed it right: the 2 will come with one of the latest and most advanced fingerprint sensors out there.

USB Type-C connector

OnePlus has confirmed on its Twitter page that the USB Type-C connector is coming on the OnePlus 2. In fact, a quick look at the cover image of the OnePlus twitter handle will tell you that the OnePlus 2 will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC. This was also announced on the OnePlus forums.

Invite only

It has also been revealed through the AMA session that the invite only strategy will stay. However, it has been 'improved'. According to a report in the Irish Examiner, "The invite-only approach to sales worked so well for the OnePlus One that it will be rolled out again when the OnePlus 2 goes on sale. OnePlus says that while it’s sticking with the invite system, though it’s been improved. More details are to be released soon."
