Dailytech has reported that OCZ Technology, has announced its new GameXstream 850W PSU for high-end SLI systems. This release has been made to co-incide, with the expected launch of Nvidia’s latest and greatest power hungry GPU the G80 chipset. The new GPU has a power recommendation of 800-watts for SLI configurations.
OCZ has this to say about its new release,
“A new generation of gaming systems is emerging with the lion share of the power being drawn by the graphics system,” said Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “Quad SLI and high-end CrossFire solutions are pushing up to 500W of power consumption which exceeds the capabilities of any conventional high-end power supply. Moreover, by the end of the year we will see PC games specifically developed for quad core CPUs. OCZ’s answer is the new GameXStream top model with 850W output to make sure that even the most hungry systems get the power they need under the most demanding conditions.
Pricing at this moment is unknown, though it should not be more than $200 when it launches.
