While the Nvidia Shield has been out for quite some time now, its game streaming capability has only been in beta so far. The company has now announced that the feature, named GameStream, will be officially launched on October 28. The feature supports more than 50 PC games, including upcoming ones like Batman: Arkham Origins and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. In the long term, Nviida hopes to bring support for GRID cloud gaming services to the handheld.

GameStream comes with some expanded streaming support, including the ability to stream games at 60 frames per second, enhanced Wi-Fi quality of service in combination with GameStream-ready routers from manufacturers and improved on-screen navigation and controls.

Another new feature making it to the Shield on the same day is what the company likes to call Shield Console Mode. It essentially lets users connect their shields to a TV to turn it into a full-fledged gaming console. It will let users play streamed PC games, Android games, browse the Internet and watch videos at native 1080p on a big screen.

Keep in mind, however, that to be able to use the GameStream functionality, you will need an Nvidia GPU that uses the Kepler architecture. This essentially means that GPUs from the 600 series and this year’s 700 series will be compatible with Shield’s game streaming.

To mark the launch of GameStream, Nvidia will be cutting the price tag on the Shield down by $100, which brings its price down to $199 (Rs 12230 approx)   for a short time. The company is also bundling high-performance PC games with its GeForce GTX GPUs. These titles include Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Batman: Arkham Origins.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
