Nvidia hopes to destroy screen tearing in PC games with G-Sync

Nvidia has announced some new technology with which the company aims to considerably improve monitors for gamers. The tech, named G-Sync, was talked about in a recent blog post by the company. It aims to improve monitors by synchronising the frame rates of GPUs with the monitor’s refresh rate, both of which are usually set at around 60 Hz. Sometimes, games with variable frame rates suffer because of this, which leads to screen tearing.

Usually, players are forced to keep V-Sync on through in-game settings, which in turn can cause problems with input delay and increase stress on the GPU. Nvidia hopes to fix all of this with the G-Sync, which can not only solve frame rate issues by syncing it with the monitor’s refresh rate, but also take away the need to use V-Sync, removing the extra stress on the GPU that comes with it.

The G-Sync module can be installed into monitors

G-Sync is a module that can either be built into monitors by OEMs or installed separately by a user on an existing display. Being of Nvidia design, the chip works well with all of the company’s GPUs, starting with the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost.

Nvidia has stated that the first monitors that come with G-Sync out of the box will be making it to stores this year, and will cost only slightly more than monitors without it. This isn’t exactly an official G-Sync monitor, however. The company is sending modules to modders who will be able to install them into Asus VG248QE monitors and ship them to customers. Monitors with G-Sync pre-installed made by manufacturers are expected to be available some time next year.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
